Gambling in local parlance, particularly in the South-West part of Nigeria, is called Baba Ijebu which is associated with Lottery.
Gambling has come a long way in Nigeria. Our
forefathers played it in their own ways.
But the advent of technology revolutionize lottery
in Nigeria, which prompted the Federal Government of Nigeria to establish
National Lottery Regulatory Commission in 2005, a body saddled with the responsibility of issuing and regulating the
operation of lottery companies in Nigeria.
Today Nigeria can boast of more than thousands of
lottery firms.
What
exactly is the mode of operation of lottery in Nigeria?
According to section 57 of the National Lottery Act
(2005):
“Lottery or lotteries includes any game, scheme, agreement, system,
plan, promotional competition or device for the distribution of prizes by lot
or chance, or as a result of the exercise of skill and chance or based on the
outcome or sporting events, or any other game, scheme, agreement, system, plan,
competition, or device, which the president may by notice in the Gazette
declare to be lottery and which shall be operated according to a licence."
Among these are sport betting where player forecasts
who wins between say Arsenal Vs Manchester United; and the Baba Ijebu(Premier
Lotto) pattern where forecasting is prominently dominant.
All of these involve money and there are no
guaranties that players will win, it’s a game of chance.
I’ve seen someone who has been playing Baba Ijebu for over five months and never
wins anything.
Back to MMM.
You don’t play any game; you only help your fellow
human being, which is called Mutual Aid: an agreement.
This involves risks too and MMM hasn’t hidden that
fact.
The
risk MMM emphasizes on can be likened to gambling.
When you gamble with your money you either lose or
win, that’s just the plain truth.
But
MMM looks great than Baba Ijebu and
other forms of lottery
MMM in Nigeria within a short period of time has
turned some people into self-independent individuals through the 30% interest
on the help provided.
MMM has a charity where those who have benefited immensely
through the mutual aid have donated to the IDPs camps across the country.
Through the charity they give back to the society:
what a cool way of Social Responsibility?
No Baba Ijebu
or other lottery winners have formed such a great body of charity where
something is given back to the society.
The
reason is obvious…
lottery players have not benefited than what they
invested. They lose more often.
Is it possible to give back to the society where you’ve
not got any returns from your investment?
NO!
Members of MM in Nigeria are more organized that’s
why they’ve been able to garner such a huge media attention within the shortest
time.
When
will lottery collapsed in Nigeria?
No one knows when Baba Ijebu and other
lotteries will crash.
The future of MMM is exactly what has given much
people concerns over its sustainability.
Just like lottery, no one knows when MMM will
collapse. But we do know that some banking institutions all over the world have
collapsed.
Imagine
a situation…
whereby you withdraw your monies from your bank, I withdraw
mine, everyone does the same.
That’s the end of such financial institution, so the
news over the imminent crash of MMM-Nigeria isn’t news that should scare
anyone.
But…
All MMM members should be greedy and must tread with
caution.
MMM
Vs Baba Ijebu: Which is the best?
MMM is better than Lottery in Nigeria.
The issued licenses to lottery firms is the only a
way of legalizing modern gambling.
And if Nigeria government wants MMM to be registered
it should clearly make it known so that all the bad press will stop once and
for all.
